As Thailand's third-largest island, Koh Samui has fast become one of the most popular tourist paradises in the country, presenting white sandy beaches and tall palms. In Koh Samui hotels are able to provide a diverse range of options, at varying prices, to suit even the most discerning tourist. The island boasts picture-perfect views and lush verdure with quaint and intriguing architecture and an attractive hippy-esque atmosphere, perfect for relaxing and unwinding.

Nightlife on the island is great. Full moon parties are often held at Koh Pha-Ngan and there are plenty of bars and top class restaurants at which to eat. In addition, there are a number of inexpensive food outlets and stalls vending local delicacies. Modern tourist attractions such as shopping centers and plazas are in abundance and various bars serve up Thai and international cuisine options.

Plenty of chic bars can be found on the island, most notably Samui Shamrock and Q-Bar. In most locations live entertainment is provided in the form of bands and views of Chaweng Lake can be enjoyed at a handful of bars. Many boutique styled swanky eateries transform themselves into up market cocktail bars after sunset, so be sure to check these out.

Snorkeling is very popular and this can be enjoyed in the island's crystal clear waters at Koh Tao. Jet skiing is also an option and the best season for this is from February to late June as this is when the hot season really takes hold. Take care when in the heat - it may be deceiving! In Koh Samui hotels and resorts can provide plenty of information with regards to activities to enjoy and places to visit and all have a good level of local knowledge to share with tourists.

One of the best ways to get around the island is by bus and fares are relatively cheap. Private buses may also be hired at varying costs and from numerous providers. Buses run to and from Bangkok too and these tickets are very reasonably priced. If you prefer to get around by train, this is also an option but getting to the station by bus is advisable. There are of course taxis running on the island and these can be flagged down during the day or night and vary in price.

Hire car services are obtainable as is cycle or moped hire. Be careful when driving around the island as the roads can sometimes be dangerous; often coconut trucks and dogs can get in the way. The best advice is to be vigilant and wear necessary protective head gear and sensible clothing and footwear. Although accidents aren't an everyday occurrence, it is good to be cautious.

There are plenty of places to visit in Koh Samui and five island tours are incredibly popular. The silhouettes of these offshore islands can be seen from the main island and these really are worth visiting. Here you can experience a vast array of wildlife such as swiftlets. These birds make their nests on many of the more remote islands and their dwellings of twigs and spit are said to be a delicacy in China. Food is often included with these tours at renowned Thai restaurants.

Another popular tourist attraction is the Spa Samui Village. This is hidden within the side of a forested mountain and provides yoga and massage therapy. Surrounded by coconut trees, this spa is peaceful and relaxing. The scenery here is unspoiled and perfect for basking in one of the herbal steam caves. Shuttle buses operate to and from the Spa Village and in Koh Samui hotels may have information regarding some of the treatments on offer.

Ang Thong National Marine Park is a very popular resort and is famed for its limestone cliffs and secluded lagoons. Thick vegetation and panoramic vistas make this the perfect spot for taking in some of the island's best views and enjoying some fresh air. Here swallows can be found in crevices and nooks in and around the area and there are narrow strips of coral to be enjoyed. A selection of tour operators provide day trips to the park and Koh Samui hotels may be able to direct you to these.

Koh Samui is the perfect resort for those seeking freedom from the western world. Stunning scenery and luxurious hotels can be found all over the island and in Koh Samui hotels are tranquil getaways.
